Selma Alihodžić is a Basel-based architect, curator, and cultural producer known for her interdisciplinary approach that blends architecture, art, and social engagement. She is the founder of Studio MÆRZ, which operates across Basel, Tokyo, and Seoul, and collaborates with artists, architects, and non-profit organizations on cultural projects.
Background and Education
Alihodžić studied architecture and urban planning at the University of Stuttgart. She further specialized in curating at the Royal College of Art in London and conducted research at the University of Tokyo. Her professional experience includes collaborations with international architectural firms in Tokyo, Stuttgart, and Basel, notably with Herzog & de Meuron.
Projects and Exhibitions
Her work has been featured in prominent international exhibitions, including the 14th International Architecture Biennale in Venice and the 4th Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism. She has also led cultural tours, such as the “Art & Architecture at Dreispitz” during Kunsttage Basel, exploring the interplay between art and architecture in urban spaces.

Alihodžić co-hosts the This Is Basel podcast, a Lovie Award-winning series that delves into Basel’s cultural landscape in collaboration with institutions like the Kunstmuseum Basel, Fondation Beyeler, and Museum Tinguely. Her writings have been published in architecture and design journals, including Bauwelt and Disegno Journal.
Residency and Research
During her artist residency at Fundaziun Nairs, she focused on the artistic reflection of societal systems and their construction through spatial and historical contexts.
